Recent Australian study has suggested that a dad’s parenting pattern influences a kid’s weight enormously.

Findings are based on the study of 5,000 children, four to five years of age, along with their parents.

Scholars discovered that fathers who employ no restrictions on the children are more likely to have obese children in comparison to fathers who set certain limitations to their offspring.

In latter case, children were less likely to have a higher body mass index (BMI).

There was no association between the mothers’ parenting styles

and children’s weight, said the study authors from the Centre for Community Child Health (CCCH) at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Melissa Wake, an associate professor at CCCH asserted that the findings are based on random research of Australian preschoolers.

She further said that it so happens that often mothers are to blamed for their child’s obesity but the new study has exploded the stereotypical myth, hence, for looking into the matter of childhood obesity,

whole family must be taken into consideration.

She added that more than 60 percent of the fathers and more than 40 percent of the mothers in the study were overweight or obese.
