Insufficient Sleep: An Invitation to Heart Problems

Confirming once more the important role that sleep plays in our life, especially when it comes to health, a new study shows that losing sleep not only leaves you short-tempered but may also introduce you to several negative consequences, threatening cardiovascular health.
Under this new study, conducted by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, it was found that insufficient sleep up to five nights could stress the heart quite badly, endangering its health.
Before coming up with this conclusion, researchers examined the cardiac function of around 32 volunteers and during this period, they were prevented from getting sufficient sleep. As a result, there was noticed a decrease in the heart rate variability, which previous studies have associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Although this study focuses mainly at the need of sufficient sleep for keeping good cardiovascular health, yet this factor can’t be denied that insufficient sleep give way to several other health problems as well. How badly, insufficient sleep play havoc with our health could be cited from the fact, according to which sleep deprivation has been found impeding the growth of new memory cells in our brain.
